Wedding Myth 101 – Week day weddings: No one will come!

outdoor-wedding1There are a lot of myths surrounding weddings, when you should be getting married, where, what you should wear, what flowers to hold…. The list continues… One of my favourite myths, up there with wearing red shoes is bad luck, Friday the 13th and wearing black is bad luck, is: ‘No one will come to a weekday wedding’. I’m telling you right now – this myth is absolute crap!

The main reason others will tell you no one will come is because they have to have a day (or two) off work. I’m sorry, but anyone who doesn’t want to play hooky because their mate is getting married is not a real friend (harsh but true). The same goes for Sunday weddings. If your guests need to take the Monday off to recover, they can, that is what personal leave days are for. In my opinion the only reason someone should not be at your wedding is if they are in hospital or giving birth.

This time last year I was the coordinator at a gorgeous wedding in the Blue Mountains. This wedding was on a Wednesday in the first week of January (just as everyone was going back to work), and it was one of the best weddings I have ever been involved in! 120 people were in attendance, and not one of them said ‘I wish I was/I should be at work’. I assume based on the amount of fun everyone had, that the majority of the guests didn’t end up going to work the following day either lol. They all enjoyed themselves immensely!

There are many benefits of having a mid-week wedding. My top 5 are:

5. Some venues add incentives to book more weddings during the week. These can sometimes include a complimentary bar tab or ceremony. Ask your venue if there is anything extra they could throw in for you to have a wedding mid-week (it doesn’t hurt to ask).

4. If there are guests you ‘have’ to invite, they may find an excuse not to attend a week day wedding.

3. You can have your pick of service providers – they are usually more available during the week compared to a weekend.

2. Venues are more available during the week and you can have your pick of dates. They are also more accommodating of smaller weddings during the week.

1. They are usually much cheaper than a Friday or weekend wedding.

“It doesn’t matter what day of the week you decide to get married, your loved ones will be there to celebrate with you.”
